Rock the airwaves as RJs, Dr J Mahendran shows the way

Ride your way to fame as a successful Radio Jockey (RJ)--is the buzzword for Rathinavani Community Radio Station Head Dr J Mahendran. Great to infer that a senior media professional has been honing the skills of aspiring youth and homemakers as RJs through free training for over five years. Age is never an impediment for those who have the dauntless spirit to excel in their chosen line of interest.

Yet another redeeming feature is that he is providing training com-pletely free as he is doing this as a service with a vision to achieve his mission of making those keen to make a career as an RJ. To be precise, radio listening hasn't faded despite the fact electronic media is gaining entry into the drawing rooms. Truly speaking radio has made a comeback after private FM stations captured the listeners interest.

It's apt to mention what a Gha-naian writer and teacher Ernest Agyemang Yeboah had said. "A world without radio is a deaf world". No doubt RJ is an excit-ing career with wit and wisdom besides out-of-the-box thinking and an outstanding communication skill to entice listeners through voice modulation. Veteran broadcaster Bi-naca Geetmala fame Amin Sayani

is credited to be the first Radio Jockey who popularised Hindi film songs in Radio Ceylon wayback in 1952.

Interestingly. Amin sahab's intro-ductions and interventions caught the attention of Swiss based com-pany CIBA toothpaste to promote their new brand Binaca Top in a Hindi film based song programme. Since then no looking back for Amin sahab as he visited every household through Binaca Geetmala aired on every Wednesday between 8pm and 9pm on Akashwani's Viv-idh Bharati. On a roll with 50,000 radio programmes and 19,000 odd jingles.

Coming to the hero of this spe-cial story Dr J Mahendran, he hails from Sivagiri in Tenkasi district served as a program host at All India Radio, Kodaikanal (Kodai FM 100.5) for five years, fol-lowed by 15 years as a programme producer and host at Tirunelveli Hello FM 106.4. Besides, worked at Magizhchi Online Radio and is now Station Director at Rathinavani Community Radio under the aegis of Rathinam Arts and Science College.

To his credit, he has a global record by the All India Book of Records for broadcasting the novel Sivakamiyin Sabatham in audio format for 30 hours and 47 minutes without interruption on Magizhchi Online Radio. Also, produced and

broadcast audio series of novels. like Ponniyin Selvan and Parthiban Kanavu. while not to speak of organising short story, poetry, and essay competitions on important occasions.

Not to be left behind, Dr. Mahendran's contributions to the radio industry earned him numer-ous awards, including the Sirantha Oodagaviyalalar Award, Sirantha Nigazhchi Thoguppalar Award, Sinthanai Sirpi Award, Abdul Kalam Award. Makkal Sevagar, Sirantha. Samooga Sevagar Award, Kalam Award, Ulaga Sathanaiyalar Award, Legend Award, Tamil Alai Award, and Panbalai Panbalar award.

It may be noted that Dr Mahen-dran has been instrumental in host-ing programs featuring prominent personalities, including Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Union Min-ister L. Murugan and BJP Mahila Morcha National president Vanathi Srinivasan, actors M. Anand and Aadhi, Pattimandram speakers. Erode Mahesh and Madurai Ra-makrishnan, Dr. Kalaiyamuthan. filmmakers, actors, government. officials, Tamil scholars, educators, social workers, environmentalists, and entrepreneurs. "ஒரு வெற்றிகரமான வானொலி தொகுப்பாளராக (ஆர்.ஜே.) உங்கள் இடத்தைப் பிடிக்க தயாராகுங்கள்" என்ற நம்பிக்கையை விதைத்து வருகிறார் இரத்தினவாணி சமுதாய வானொலி நிலையத் தலைவர் டாக்டர் ஜெ.மகேந்திரன். கடந்த ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக, அவரது இலவச பயிற்சித் திட்டத்தின் மூலம், இளம் தலைமுறையும், வீடமைப்புப் பெண்களும், மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளும் ஆர்.ஜே.க்களாகப் பயிற்சி பெற்று, இன்று தனியார் எஃப்எம் வானொலி நிலையங்களில் தங்கள் திறமையால் சாதனை படைத்து வருகிறார்கள்.

வெறும் தொழிலாக அல்லாமல், சமூக சேவையாக இந்த பயிற்சியை இலவசமாக வழங்குவது இவரது சாதனைக்கு கூடுதல் மதிப்பைச் சேர்க்கிறது. திறமைக்கு வயது தடை இல்லை என்பதைக் காட்டும் ஒரு தலைமுறை உருவாகியுள்ளது. நிகழ்ச்சித் தொகுப்பாளர்களாகவும், நிகழ்வுத் தொகுப்பாளர்களாகவும், குரல் ஒலிப்பதிவாளர்களாகவும் பலர் தங்களை நிலைநிறுத்தியுள்ளனர்.

மின்னணு ஊடகங்கள்drawing room-ஐ அடைந்தாலும், வானொலியின் பரவல் குறையவில்லை. மறுபடியும் வானொலி புது ஜீவனை பெற்று வளர்ந்து வருகிறது. இது ஒரு மகிழ்ச்சிகரமான வளர்ச்சி. "வானொலி இல்லா உலகம் ஒரு செவி இல்லாத உலகம்" என கூறிய எழுத்தாளர் எர்னெஸ்ட் அக்யேமாங் யெபோவாவின் வார்த்தைகள் இங்கே பொருத்தமானவை.

ஆர்.ஜே.யாகும் கலை

ஒரு ஆர்.ஜே.யின் வெற்றிக்கு நக்கலும், நுண்ணறிவும், சிந்தனைவளமும், குரல் மாற்றங்களும் முக்கியமானவை. இந்தப் பாதையை இந்திய வானொலியில் முதன் முதலில் பிரபலப்படுத்தியவர் பினாகா கீதமாலா புகழ் அமீன் சயானி. 1952ல் Radio Ceylon–இல் ஹிந்திப் பாடல்கள் மூலம் மக்களின் வீட்டுக்குள் புகுந்தவர். அவருடைய தொகுப்புகளை நிறுவனம் ஒன்றான சீபா டூத் பேஸ்ட் விளம்பரமாகவும் பயன்படுத்தியது.

மையமாகும் டாக்டர் ஜெ.மகேந்திரன்

டாக்டர் ஜெ.மகேந்திரன், தென்காசி மாவட்டம் சிவகிரியைச் சேர்ந்தவர். ஆல் இந்தியா ரேடியோ (கொடைக்கானல் எஃப்எம் 100.5) இல் ஐந்தாண்டுகள் தொகுப்பாளராக பணியாற்றிய பின்னர், திருநெல்வேலி ஹலோ எஃப்எம் 106.4 இல் 15 ஆண்டுகள் நிகழ்ச்சி தயாரிப்பாளராகவும், தொகுப்பாளராகவும் இருந்துள்ளார். மழிழ்ச்சி ஆன்லைன் ரேடியோவிலும் பணியாற்றிய இவர், தற்போது இரத்தினவாணி சமுதாய வானொலியின் நிலையத் தலைவராக செயல்படுகிறார்.

சாதனைப் பட்டியல்

அகில இந்திய சாதனைப் புத்தகத்தில் "சிவகாமியின் சபதம்" நாவலை 30 மணி 47 நிமிடங்கள் இடையின்றி ஒலிபரப்பி உலக சாதனை படைத்தவர். “பொன்னியின் செல்வன்”, “பார்த்திபன் கனவு” போன்ற நாவல்களை ஒலிப்புத்தகமாக தயாரித்து பரப்பியவர். சிறுகதை, கவிதை, கட்டுரை போட்டிகளை நடத்தி, இலக்கியப் பரவலை ஊக்குவித்து வருகிறார்.
